In June, UNO-CHART toured Pump Station Number 6 and the 17th Street Outfall Canal Closure Structure.

Both systems play an essential part in helping to keep the City of New Orleans dry - not just during hurricanes and tropical storms, but during everyday rain events as well.

The pump station is the biggest in the world, and can pump an excess of 32 billion gallons of water a day. The Army Corps of Engineers designed the outfall structure to work along with the pumping station during storms in order to help reduce flooding and storm surge.

The tour was a site visit organized by the Sewerage and Water Board in association with the One Water Summit, which took place from June 27th to 29th.
